My Fashion Tips and Tricks

There are so many tips and tricks in the world of fashion. I am here to share with you my favorites and ones that I live by. Maybe this list will give you some inspiration or confidence to wear what you have always wanted to.

1. Purchase the right Undergarments. Bras, underwear, and body shapers can all effect the way a certain garment looks on your body. These pieces can also boost your confidence just by having the right items in your wardrobe. I recommend getting fitted for a bra yearly. So much happens to our bodies in the course of a year you never know what can change.

2. Know your body shape. There are so many body shapes out there and you may not just be one specifically but a mixture of two.

Pear- Narrow on top, Bigger on Bottom
Apple- Bigger on top, Narrow on Bottom
Hourglass- Even on top and bottom with a defined waist
Boyish/Athletic- Straight from top to bottom, can have wider shoulders

3. Nude Shoes are your best friend. Whether you love wearing heels or flats, nude versions of your favs are a great idea. They go with every outfit and make your legs look longer. Remember when buying a nude shoe it should closely match your skin tone.

4. Have a go to outfit for work and for a night out. It is always a good idea to have a staple outfit that you can put on if you are running late, if you can't make up your mind, or if you get a last minute invite. This outfit should be something you feel comfortable in and something you can change up with your accessories.

5. No matter your size you can wear Patterns and Prints. For people who think they can't wear a certain print or pattern I am telling you go for it. What matters is the sizing. If you are smaller in the area you want the pattern you can go as small or as large as you want. You've got it easy. For people who are larger in the area where you want the print or pattern go for smaller patterns (polka dots, stripes, etc.) Print on the other hand (floral) you can sometimes opt for a larger version. It's all about proportions.

6. Loose and Tight. Think about your clothing when you are picking it out. If you are going for a loose, flowy top then try to keep your pants slim fitting. Same goes for if you pick out a slim top, go for looser/wider bottoms. It balances out your body.

7. Check if clothing is see-through. Before leaving your house for work or an event, check yourself in the sunlight or with a flash photo. So many people have been the victims of flash photography showing their undergarments. Ask a boyfriend, spouse, friend, sibling to check your top and bottom for see-through pieces!

I hope all the tips above will help you improve your fashion or boost your confidence!

Spencer

What's In My Bag!

This post is something that Bloggers and Youtubers all do about once a year and I will be no different. It's the infamous "What's In My Bag?" post. But I thought it was fitting to do this now since I just bought a new purse for the spring/summer. I decided it was finally time to use the money I had been saving for that one special item. As you can probably guess I bought myself a Kate Spade purse and wallet. Because you have to match!

I always find these "Bag" posts really interesting mainly due to how much stuff people carry around with them. I try to keep mine to the bare minimum.

Kleenex Tissues
Checkbook and Pen
IPhone Headphones and Charger
Bath & Body Works Hand Sanitizer
and Elephant holder
Ralph Lauren Sunglasses
Ice Breakers Mints

I hope you find it as enjoyable as I do to look into someone's life through their handbag!

Spencer

Tuesday- New Sunglasses

I mentioned when I posted about my new Eyeglasses that I also purchased Sunglasses. Guess what?! They are here and I'm so happy I picked the frames I did. They look so good.

I purchased a pair of Ralph Lauren Tortoise shell/Light Blue Cat-Eye Sunnies from LensCrafters. I personally think the Cat-eye shape suits a lot of different face shapes, especially if you have a rounder/fuller face.

It's been years since I've had a pair of sunglasses and even longer since I last liked my sunglasses. I honestly act like I'm a movie star when I put them on. I don't care what anyone says about that bit of information, I just love my sunnies! haha :)

Fashion Friday- H&M Haul

Over the past few weeks I've been adding pieces to my wardrobe. I realized that I needed necklaces that were more delicate. All I really have is big statement necklaces in different lengths. So I picked some things up at H&M that I thought are staple pieces in any wardrobe. Hopefully this will give you a little inspiration on your next shopping trip.

First, are the necklaces. I got a simple chain that is about 34 inches long. To compliment this I got a thin chain that has a small crystal pendant that is 32 inches long. Right before checking out I saw a collection of 7 necklaces that are meant to be layered together or separately with other necklaces.

I also really like a pair of heeled boots at the store. They have a 3 inch chunky heel but are so comfortable to walk in. At first they look pretty bland because they seem to be just black but the boot has a suede back and stitched detailing in the front. I also grabbed a pair of black Stretch Skinny Jeans, because you always need black jeans. They go with just about everything.

Tuesday- My New Glasses!

This weekend I went to Lenscrafters and got new eyeglasses which I am in love with. I have always worn eyeglasses that were of a more small rectangular shape and I was slowly hating my old ones. These are a bit bigger but I think they suit my face way better than my old ones! Also, Lenscrafters has a great variety of brands and prices. Plus all of their frames are very classic and yet still current. I also purchased sunglasses but they are being shipped so I will show you them once they are here!

I purchased a pair of Coach "Fannie" eyeglasses in Dark Tortoise with Green inner arms.

Fashion Friday- Spring Shoes 2015

On the Spring 2015 Ready-to-Wear runways we saw a few different shoe trends. One of the biggest trends, and my favorite, was the Ladylike Chunky Heel. Yes people, it's making a comeback! This style was big a couple years ago and has since returned.

At Giambattista Valli, shoes were adorned with heavy metals and floral prints.

Bottega Veneta featured shoes that look as if they were inspired by ballroom shoes, and featured wicker or straw like elements.

At the Vera Wang show, we saw shoes that were extremely chunky and platformed.

Looking forward to breaking out my heels this Spring!

Tuesday- Pantone's Color of the Year 2015 Companion Colors

A Few weeks ago I made a post about Pantone's Color of the Year 2015, Marsala.

I wanted to share with you some colors that work well with Marsala and show you some outfit ideas as well.

Marsala is close to the color Burgundy but is a bit lighter. I think that most stores are going to translate Marsala into their collections through the color Burgundy though.

Some colors that work with and look great with Marsala/Burgundy are greys, very light purple, olive green, most browns, and pink.

In the outfit below, we are using Camel and olive green as base colors so that the Marsala colored pants will pop. Keeping the accessories simple helps to not overwhelm the look.

Necklaces, Earrings, and Boots: Forever 21

The next outfit focuses on the top as a standout piece. This look is more casual than the two other outfits shown. Since it is more simple the accessories are again simple pieces.

Earrings, Bag, and Boots: Forever21

The final look has similar colors to the one above however, it has a pop of pink in the shoes. This will help to draw the eye down the entire outfit.

Jewel Necklace and Clutch: Forever21

I hope this has given you some inspiration and you will try to experiment with these
colors on your own!

Thank you

Media Monday- 90's Fashion Returned

Throughout 2014 I started to see something creeping back into the stores and eventually into people's wardrobes. It was the return of 1990's fashions!

The 90's and early 2000's were not the best time for fashion, everything was very bland, so when I saw it making a comeback I panicked. In fact I'm still panicking. Why are we bringing back the minimalist clothing and terrible shoes. I will say that there were some trends this year that I didn't mind so much.

For instance, I don't mind overalls, crop tops, short slip dresses, and the overall grunge look.

But please people, the high-waisted mom jeans, Birkenstocks, and choker necklaces... Leave it in the past!

What I Wore Wednesday- Fall Colors

I'm sitting here looking out my window at a cold, rainy day and I realized the last thing I want to do is go outside and take pictures in my nice outfit. So I decided to change up my pictures for today.

Even though it is practically Winter outside and Christmas is 22 days away (but who's counting) I felt like it was a fall color kind of day.

Cream Polka Dot Sweater: H&M
Cream Cami (under sweater): Forever 21
Mustard Skinny Jeans: Old Navy
Black Boots: Bamboo at Delia's
Floral Scarf: Walmart

My Jewelry Storage/ Organization

Organization!

One of my favorite words!!! I love to organize, rearrange, whatever you like calling it! I just love changing things up, making things look nice, and making things easily accessible!

My jewelry collection is pretty big I think. I have a large collection of necklaces. Personally I don’t like wearing bracelets or rings. I do have a few of them just not a fan of actually wearing them.
Having said that, I have perfected my personal storage methods. I have my jewelry stored in old containers, new containers, and some trays that I made. I hope that this inspires you to maybe try storing your jewelry in different containers that you haven’t thought of in the past. Or maybe even making your own!

Most of my necklaces are in an old thread storage container. My grandmom used to keep her jewelry thrown in this and I have since taken it into my possession. I’m pretty sure this box dates from the 1920’s but it could be a newer production of the original. This box has traveled to NYC and back quite a few times and it’s still in great shape; though a bit dirty looking.

Similar Items: Target Jewelry Storage

Sitting on top of my thread case are a bunch of brown boxes which are holding more necklaces. I am using old Birchboxes as jewelry trays. I couldn’t bare to throw away these cute boxes and I’m glad I did not because I am now getting great use from them.

Lastly, I have a very shallow drawer that I bought drawer trays for from the Container Store. I have some necklaces, bracelets, rings, and special items (like my real Pearls) stored in this drawer.
