Since deciding what I wanted to go to college for I’ve
been asked the same questions…
- What do you do with a Fashion Merchandising/Management degree?
- What is a Stylist?
- Why do you want to do that with your life?
For those of you who don’t know, I currently attend
the Fashion Institute of Technology. I am getting a degree in Fashion
Merchandising and Management. I plan on using what I’ve learned to start my own
Fashion Styling business. I want to dress women, men, children, pretty much
whoever will let me dress them I will!
A Fashion Stylist in simplest terms is someone who
dresses a person for an event, work, or just everyday life. Stylists pick the
clothing and accessories, sometimes even hair and makeup, that a person will wear
to form a cohesive look. Being a stylist can’t necessarily be taught. Of course
there are tips and tricks that are learned from the industry and runway shows
but primarily being a stylist is based on if you have an eye for fashion. If
you the stylist has the ability to see a look that most others would not see. Whether
this is mixing patterns or colors, you have to be able to see what others don’t.
I love watching other stylists' videos to see what
ideas they have and sometimes that can inspire me to try something that I was not
100% sure about before.
Thanks for reading!
